iWhat does this level mean?
- Beginner: one large subject and big areas to paint, little detail. Ideal for a first canvas.
- Intermediate: several elements or colour gradients, with smaller areas. It takes a little more care and a fine brush in places.
- Advanced: a busy scene with many small areas and small faces to paint with a fine brush. For experienced painters, or with patience.
Tip: on a larger canvas the areas are bigger and easier to paint.
Pop art koala with blue muzzle paint by numbers canvas
A multicolour koala fills the centre of a white canvas, muzzle blue, eyes black, with drips and jets of paint flying off to both sides. The head is mostly broad flat areas, so the paint goes down quickly; the fiddly work sits in the splashes. The large furry ears mix blue, purple and pink, and yellow returns in the side drips and in a few tufts. The white background takes up much of the canvas and pushes the koala forward. Landscape format leaves room for the paint on either side. Clean pop art outlines keep each shade inside its own numbered area, so two colours never bleed together. It sits in our paint by numbers for kids and beginners range, at intermediate level because of the small splashes.
Tips for painting this design
Start with the blue muzzle and the black eyes, the smallest areas on the canvas, using the fine brush. Then paint the ears, where blue, purple and pink meet: switch to a clean brush between each shade instead of rinsing one. The yellow and pink drips need the fine brush too, stroke by stroke. Leave the white background until last, it fills fast with the wide brush. On a 30x40 cm or 40x50 cm canvas the splashes stay wide enough to paint comfortably; the larger sizes bring finer spots and a longer session. Expect around 12 to 30 hours in total, depending on the size you pick.
Sizes, colours and painting time
The design comes in 15x15 to 70x80 cm (12 sizes). You choose a kit of 24, 36 or 48 colours, on rolled canvas, with or without a wooden frame to assemble. Allow around 12 to 30 h depending on the size.
What's in the kit
Canvas:The printed linen canvas carries the koala, its furry ears, the blue muzzle and the drips on the white background.
Paint:The numbered acrylic pots arrive ready to use, with 24, 36 or 48 colours depending on the option you choose.
Brushes:Three brushes. The fine one handles the eyes and the edge of the muzzle, the medium the ears, the wide the white background.
Guide:The paper guide repeats the design and its numbers, useful where a splash crosses a colour change.
Optional:Add the wooden frame to assemble and the canvas is ready to hang; without it the canvas arrives rolled in a tube.

Without frame
The canvas arrives rolled in a tube. You paint it flat and frame it afterwards if you wish.
With frame
Wooden stretcher bars to assemble stretch the canvas. You paint on a taut surface and hang the picture on the wall.
Questions about this design
Which size should I pick for this pop art koala?
For a first canvas, 30x40 cm keeps the muzzle and the ears large enough for the medium brush. 40x50 cm gives the drips more space. Above 50x70 cm the splashes turn into fine spots and ask for more patience.
Do the paint splashes take long to paint?
They are short strokes and separate spots, with no gradient to blend. The fine brush in the kit covers them. Allow an hour or two on top of the koala itself, and more on the largest sizes.
Who would this koala kit suit as a gift?
Children aged eight and over who like bright colours, and adults drawn to pop art. The koala also works for an animal lover who wants something louder than a realistic portrait. Everything needed to start is in the box.
Which colour should I start with in paint by numbers?
Begin with the blue muzzle and the black eyes, the smallest areas. Move on to the ears, swapping brush between blue, purple and pink. The white background and the yellow drips come last.
Is paint by numbers difficult?
The level is intermediate. The muzzle and eyes ask for a steady fine brush, the ears and splashes need care where the colours meet, and the white background is simple to fill.
