Choosing your kit and getting ready
This varies enormously depending on the size of the canvas, the complexity of the design, the number of colours, and how much time you spend on it per session. A small, simple kit can take a few hours, while a large, detailed kit can take 20, 30 hours or more, spread over several days or weeks.
Common sizes run from 15x15 to 70x80 cm, with 40x50 cm the most popular. Our paint by numbers kits come in sizes from 15x15 to 70x80 cm depending on the design; the available size is shown on each product page.
Our largest paint by numbers canvases measure 70 x 80 cm. We offer 12 sizes, starting at 15 x 15 cm, and the available size depends on the design. Larger canvases take longer to complete, with painting time typically around 20 to 40 hours depending on the size. Their larger sections can also make the painting easier to manage.
You can choose designs with 24, 36 or 48 colours, with or without a wooden frame. If you choose a canvas without a frame, we roll it in a tube for dispatch.
Linen canvas is stronger and less likely to warp over time, while cotton canvas feels softer and costs less. Our paint by numbers kits use printed linen canvas, with the design outlines and numbers already marked for you. This gives you a firm surface for painting and helps the canvas keep its shape as you work. Cotton canvas is an alternative if you prefer a softer material or want to reduce the cost, but it is not the canvas we use for our kits.
It is a canvas fixed to a wooden frame: it stays flat while you paint and hangs straight away once finished. On our product pages, choose the "with frame" option: you receive wooden stretcher bars to assemble, and you stretch the canvas over them. Without this option, the canvas comes rolled in a tube.
Choose a stable model with an adjustable tilt that fits the size of your canvas. A table easel lets you paint sitting down with your back straight, and it folds away easily.
