Description

A beech wood table easel for painting without backache

Painting bent over a canvas lying flat soon pulls on your neck and back. This beech wood table easel raises the canvas to eye level at an angle you set yourself. You keep a straight back, see the whole picture and stop the lamp reflecting off wet paint.

It is one of our paint by numbers accessories, made for the table where you already paint.

Why paint on a table easel?

  • Better posture: the canvas comes up to you, so you do not have to lean over it.
  • Better view: tilt the canvas upright to see the whole picture and spot numbered areas you have missed.
  • Fewer reflections: change the angle in one movement when the lamp shines on wet paint.
  • A freer wrist: your hand rests more naturally on small numbered areas and fine detail.

Using the easel with a framed or unframed canvas

  1. Canvas on a frame: rest it directly on the lower bar, where the groove holds it in place. This works for framed paint by numbers kits as well as a canvas you stretch yourself.
  2. Rolled canvas without frame: fix it to rigid card or a drawing board with clips, then rest the whole thing on the easel.
  3. Set the tilt with the rear ratchet and lock it with the brass wing nuts.
  4. At the end of a session, fold it flat and store it in a drawer or behind a piece of furniture.

Your questions about this table easel

Does the easel hold a 40x50 cm canvas on a frame?

Yes. The wide base and the groove on the lower ledge hold framed canvases of 40x50 cm and 50x65 cm, as well as squares up to 50x50 cm, without wobbling. Non-slip pads under the feet stop the easel sliding on a smooth table while you work.

Do I need to assemble the easel?

No, it arrives assembled and ready to use. Unfold it, set the tilt with the rear ratchet and tighten the brass wing nuts. When you finish painting, fold it flat again: it is only a few centimetres thick, so it fits in a drawer or behind a piece of furniture.

Can I use it with a rolled canvas that has no frame?

Yes, with one extra step. Fix the rolled canvas to rigid card or a drawing board with clips, then rest the whole board on the lower bar of the easel. The canvas stays flat and steady, and you can still tilt it to the angle you like.

What working height does the easel give?

It depends on your table and chair. Put the easel in front of you and set the tilt with the ratchet until the canvas sits level with your eyes and you no longer lean forward. Lock it with the brass wing nuts so it stays there.
