Description

Precision fine paint brushes set of 11 for painting each area without going over the lines

On a paint by numbers canvas, many areas are less than a centimetre across. A brush that is too wide spills onto the neighbouring section and leaves the number showing through. This set of 11 brushes gives you a size for every area, from points under a millimetre for outlines to wide brushes for even flat colour. It also belongs with the other paint by numbers accessories we stock.

Which brush for which area?

  • 00000 and 000Points under a millimetre: outlines, eyes, small highlights
  • 00 to 1Small areas and fine lines
  • 2 to 4Medium areas, which make up most of a canvas
  • 5 to 7Large flat areas: sky, background, plain surfaces

Our tip: for a fine line in acrylic, load a little paint and hold the brush almost upright. Keep the tip on the canvas and let it draw the line, and keep the belly of the brush clear of it.

What the brushes are made of

  • Fine nylon bristles: they hold a good reserve of paint and return to shape after every stroke, so the point stays usable through a long session.
  • Lacquered wooden triangular handle: your fingers sit naturally, your hand tires less on small areas and the brush does not roll off the table.
  • Double-crimped chrome aluminium ferrule: the bristles stay firmly anchored, with no shedding onto the canvas.
  • Several paint types: use them with acrylic, gouache and watercolour, and clean them quickly in water. If you are starting out, they pair well with our kits for kids and beginners.

Looking after your fine brushes

  1. Rinse in warm water as soon as you finish painting, without letting acrylic dry in the ferrule.
  2. Wash with a mild soap if needed.
  3. Reshape the point with your fingertips and put the protective cap back on the finest tips.
  4. Leave to dry flat, never point down in a glass of water.

Your questions about this brush set

What is the smallest brush in the set?

The 00000. Sizes read backwards below 0, so the more zeros, the finer the point. The 00000 has a point under a millimetre, which suits outlines, eyes and small highlights on a numbered canvas.

Which brush should I use for a fine line in acrylic?

Pick a round brush from 00000 to 0. Load a little paint and hold the brush almost upright so the tip makes the line. Keep sizes 5 to 7 for sky, background and other large flat areas.

Does the handle colour change the brushes?

No. Only the handle changes, in black, white, red or yellow. All four versions contain the same 11 sizes: 00000, 000, 00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

How do I keep the brushes supple?

Rinse them in warm water as soon as you finish, before acrylic dries in the ferrule. Reshape the point with your fingertips, put the cap back on the finest tips and leave the brushes to dry flat, never point down in a glass.
