Difficulty level : Intermediate
iWhat does this level mean?
- Beginner: one large subject and big areas to paint, little detail. Ideal for a first canvas.
- Intermediate: several elements or colour gradients, with smaller areas. It takes a little more care and a fine brush in places.
- Advanced: a busy scene with many small areas and small faces to paint with a fine brush. For experienced painters, or with patience.
Tip: on a larger canvas the areas are bigger and easier to paint.
PAW Patrol fire truck paint by numbers: the pups on a red engine
The red fire truck runs along a road between green hills. Ryder holds the wheel, cap on his head. Chase stands beside him, Skye flies above the windscreen, Rocky sits on the roof and Zuma follows at the back. The PAW Patrol Lookout stands in the background under a blue sky. Red, blue, white, green and yellow fill most of the canvas, and the outlines stay sharp: no soft shading to blend, so the finished picture reads clearly from across a room. It sits in our PAW Patrol paint by numbers range with the other pup designs.
Tips for painting this design
Cover the fire truck first. The flat red panels take the wide brush and cover ground quickly, and the blue sky and green hills give you something to work on while the red sets. Leave the grey road for the end. Faces, helmets and badges are small and sit close together, so keep the fine brush for them and finish one pup at a time. Count on around 12 to 30 hours depending on the size. The same flat panels of paint turn up in our car and vehicle paint by numbers kits.
Sizes, colours and painting time
The design comes in 20x30 to 60x80 cm (9 sizes). You choose a 24, 36 or 48 colour kit, on rolled canvas, with a wooden frame to assemble or with the canvas already mounted on its frame (except in 50x70 and 60x80 cm, delivered rolled). Allow around 12 to 30 h depending on the size.
What's in the kit
Canvas:Linen, printed with the outlines and numbers of the fire truck, the pups and the Lookout, ready to paint.
Paint:Numbered acrylic, ready to use, in 24, 36 or 48 pots depending on the option you pick.
Brushes:Three: fine for the faces, badges and capes, medium for the uniforms, wide for the sky, the hills and the road.
Guide:The printed guide matches each number to its paint pot, helmets and truck panels included.
Optional:A wooden frame to assemble, so you can stretch the canvas of the fire truck before you start. You can also choose it already mounted on its frame, ready to hang.

Without frame
The canvas arrives rolled in a tube. You paint it flat and frame it afterwards if you wish.
With frame
Wooden stretcher bars to assemble stretch the canvas. You paint on a taut surface and hang the picture on the wall.
Mounted canvas
The canvas arrives already stretched on its wooden frame. You start painting right away and hang the picture on the wall.
Questions about this design
Which size should I choose for a child starting out?
Pick the 30x40 cm. The truck panels are wide enough for the medium brush, the numbers stay easy to read, and the pups' faces are still workable with the fine brush. The 20x30 cm squeezes those faces too tight. The 40x50 cm gives more room if an adult paints alongside.
Are the faces and helmets hard to paint?
They are the fiddly part. Faces, helmets and badges sit close together and need the fine brush and a steady hand. The rest of the picture is flat colour: the red panels of the truck, the blue sky, the green hills and the grey road. Work one pup at a time and let each area dry.
Should I take 24, 36 or 48 colours?
The kit is sold with 24, 36 or 48 numbered paint pots. The 24 option is plenty for this picture: five shades carry the truck, the sky, the hills, the road and the uniforms. Choose 36 or 48 if you paint other designs too and want a wider stock of ready-mixed acrylics.
Who is this kit for, and where can you hang it?
For a PAW Patrol fan who has painted a kit before, or a child from about six with an adult beside them for the small areas. The portrait canvas suits a bedroom wall above a bed or a desk, and it works beside other PAW Patrol designs. A gift for a birthday or a rainy half-term.
Which colour should I start with in paint by numbers?
Start with the truck: the bright red covers large flat areas that are easy to fill with the wide brush. Then paint the blue sky and green hills, followed by the grey road. Keep the fine brush for the pups' faces, helmets and badges.
What are the standard picture sizes?
This kit comes in sizes such as 20x30 to 60x80 cm (9 sizes). The 30x40 cm suits a child painting alone, while 40x50 cm leaves more room for the details of the truck and the Lookout.
