- Sizes20x30 to 60x80 cm (9 sizes)
- Time~12 to 30 h depending on size
- KitLinen canvas · 24/36/48 paint pots · 3 brushes
Difficulty level : Intermediate
iWhat does this level mean?
- Beginner: one large subject and big areas to paint, little detail. Ideal for a first canvas.
- Intermediate: several elements or colour gradients, with smaller areas. It takes a little more care and a fine brush in places.
- Advanced: a busy scene with many small areas and small faces to paint with a fine brush. For experienced painters, or with patience.
Tip: on a larger canvas the areas are bigger and easier to paint.
Two green woodpeckers paint by numbers: a pair perched on one trunk
One bird sits above the other on the same trunk, and both red crowns stay visible against the green. Yellow runs along the wing edges, the bodies mix several greens, and the brown bark fills the right side of the canvas in vertical lines. On the left, a few bare branches cross a pale beige background. The style is realistic, the format portrait, and the two woodpeckers hold the centre of the composition.
Tips for painting this design
Cover the beige background and the bare branches first: they are the largest areas and the quickest to fill. Take the trunk next and follow the printed vertical lines instead of painting across them, or the bark loses its grain. Leave the birds until the paint around them is dry, then work the green body, add the yellow wing edge and finish the red crown with the finest of the three brushes. A 30x40 cm or 40x50 cm canvas keeps the feather edges comfortable to paint.
If you paint birds often, the rest of our bird paint by numbers range uses the same numbering and the same three brushes. Woodland scenes with more trunks and foliage sit in the nature paint by numbers collection.
Sizes, colours and painting time
The design comes in 20x30 to 60x80 cm (9 sizes). You choose a kit of 24, 36 or 48 colours, on rolled canvas, with a wooden frame to assemble or with the canvas already mounted on its frame (except in 50x70 and 60x80 cm, delivered rolled). Allow around 12 to 30 h depending on the size.
What's in the kit
The number of colours you pick changes how finely the plumage is stepped. 24 pots cover the main greens, browns and beiges; 36 or 48 split those tones further, which suits the larger formats where the wings and the bark cover more canvas.
Canvas:The printed linen canvas carries the outlines of the two woodpeckers, the trunk and the bare branches on a beige background.
Paint:The numbered acrylic pots are ready to use and hold the greens, yellow, red, browns and beiges the plumage and the bark need.
Brushes:The fine brush is for the feather edges, the claws and the red crown, the medium for the bark, the broad for the beige background.
Guide:The printed paper guide to the design lets you check the numbers along the trunk and around the heads.
Optional:The wooden frame to assemble keeps the printed linen taut while you paint the bark and the two birds. You can also choose it already mounted on its frame, ready to hang.

Without frame
The canvas arrives rolled in a tube. You paint it flat and frame it afterwards if you wish.
With frame
Wooden stretcher bars to assemble stretch the canvas. You paint on a taut surface and hang the finished picture on the wall.
Mounted canvas
The canvas arrives already stretched on its wooden frame. You start painting right away and hang the picture on the wall.
Questions about this design
Which size works best for two green woodpeckers?
30x40 cm is the easiest place to start: the background and the trunk stay quick to cover and the heads are still wide enough for the fine brush. Go to 40x50 cm if you want more room on the wing edges and the bark lines.
How hard is the plumage to paint?
The kit is rated intermediate. The bodies are medium areas, while the wing edges and the red crown take short strokes with the fine brush. If you have finished a canvas before, the trunk is the only section that asks for patience.
Does the kit come with a frame?
You choose that option. The canvas arrives rolled without a frame, or with wooden stretcher bars to assemble yourself, which keep the linen taut while you paint the bark and the two birds.
How long does it take to finish?
Around 12 to 30 hours, depending on the format you pick. The smaller sizes sit near the lower end, and the larger ones add work on the beige background and the bark before you reach the birds.
