iWhat does this level mean?
- Beginner: one large subject and big areas to paint, little detail. Ideal for a first canvas.
- Intermediate: several elements or colour gradients, with smaller areas. It takes a little more care and a fine brush in places.
- Advanced: a busy scene with many small areas and small faces to paint with a fine brush. For experienced painters, or with patience.
Tip: on a larger canvas the areas are bigger and easier to paint.
Cornish Coastal Lighthouse Paint by Numbers Kit: White Tower on a Rocky Headland
A white lighthouse with a red lantern room stands on a rocky headland above turquoise waves. Pink sea thrift grows in clumps along the cliff edge, and the rock face is painted in greys and browns. Green hills run back from the coast with a few stone cottages among the fields. The overcast sky keeps the light soft, so the lantern room and the flowers carry the strongest colour. Soft impressionist brushwork fills the grass and water.
Detail is medium: the rocks and sea thrift need care, the sky and hills do not. The printed linen canvas carries the outlines and paint numbers, the acrylic pots are ready to use, and the box holds three brushes and a paper guide.
The scene belongs to our English countryside paint by numbers range, next to the harbour and thatched cottage designs.
Tips for painting this design
Start with the sky, the largest flat area, using the wide brush and even strokes; it sets the tone for the greens and the water. The hills take the same brush. A medium brush lets you follow the direction of the waves. Paint the lighthouse white before the surrounding rocks, then switch to the fine brush for the red lantern room, its railings and the sea thrift.
The sea thrift takes separate small dabs with a light touch. A 36 or 48 colour set gives you more than one green for the hills and several blues for the water. For more practice with breaking water, browse our beach and sea paint by numbers kits.
Sizes, colours and painting time
The design comes in 20x30 to 60x80 cm (9 sizes). You choose a 24, 36 or 48 colour kit, on rolled canvas, with a wooden frame to assemble or with the canvas already mounted on its frame (except in 50x70 and 60x80 cm, delivered rolled). Allow around 12 to 30 h depending on the size.
What's in the kit
Canvas:printed linen canvas with the lighthouse, cliffs, cottages and sea thrift outlined and numbered, rolled unless you add a frame.
Paint:numbered acrylic pots in turquoise, white, pink, olive green, grey and brown, ready to use, with extra shades for the sky and rocks in the 36 and 48 colour sets.
Brushes:three brushes. Fine for the lantern room, railings and sea thrift, medium for the waves and cottages, wide for the sky and hills.
Guide:paper guide showing the finished picture and the paint numbers for each area.
Optional:wooden frame to assemble yourself, if the finished scene is going up in a hallway or kitchen. You can also choose it already mounted on its frame, ready to hang.

Without frame
The canvas arrives rolled in a tube. You paint it flat and frame it afterwards if you wish.
With frame
Wooden stretcher bars to assemble stretch the canvas. You paint on a taut surface and hang the picture on the wall.
Mounted canvas
The canvas arrives already stretched on its wooden frame. You start painting right away and hang the picture on the wall.
Questions about this design
What size works best for this lighthouse scene?
40x50 cm keeps the lighthouse, cottages and railings clear without making the rocks too fine. Take 30x40 cm for a narrow wall, or 50x70 cm if you want the sea thrift painted flower by flower. The canvas runs to around 12 to 30 hours depending on size.
How do I paint the sea thrift and the railings?
Use the fine brush and load it lightly. Paint the pink flowers as separate small dabs rather than one block, and give each railing bar a single steady stroke. If the paint drags on the linen, thin it with a drop of water.
Is this kit a good gift for someone who loves Cornwall?
It suits anyone who knows the Cornish coast, and the medium detail works for a painter with a little experience. Add the wooden frame and the finished lighthouse can go straight up in a kitchen or hallway. We dispatch within 48 hours.
