Surfer at sunset with lighthouse beach paint by numbers
A surfer in a wetsuit cuts across a curling wave while the sun drops behind a rocky headland. A lighthouse stands at the top of the cliff, dark conifers line the edge, and the water below carries purple and orange reflections of the sky. This surfer at sunset with lighthouse beach paint by numbers design keeps the scene in broad colour blocks, so the figure and the lighthouse stay readable without fussy patches of detail. Detail is medium across the canvas and the format is square. The kit is rated intermediate and takes around 12 to 30 hours depending on the size you choose, from 15x15 cm up to 70x80 cm. For more coastline, our beach & sea paint by numbers range adds sailboats and rock pools, and the sunset paint by numbers designs keep the same warm sky.
Tips for painting this design
Block in the golden sky first. It is the largest flat area on the canvas and it sets the warmth for everything below it. Use the wide brush for the sky and the open water, the medium brush for the wave face and the cliff, the fine brush for the surfer's outline, the lighthouse and the pine trunks. Build the white spray in thin layers over dry purple, which keeps the crest crisp instead of milky. The gradient steps from yellow through burnt orange into purple, so the 36 or 48 colour option gives you the extra shades to blend between them. Leave the dark navy areas until the end, once the shape of the wave is settled. Hang the finished square canvas on a bathroom wall or in a hallway, where the gold sky and cool water stand out against white paint.
Sizes, colours and painting time
The design comes in 15x15 to 70x80 cm (12 sizes). You choose a 24, 36 or 48 colour kit, on rolled canvas, with or without a wooden frame to assemble. Allow around 12 to 30 h depending on the size.
What's in the kit
Canvas:a linen canvas printed with the numbered outlines of the surfer, the wave, the lighthouse and the headland, rolled unless you add a frame.
Paint:numbered acrylic pots, ready to use, covering golden yellow, burnt orange, deep purple, dark navy and white for the spray.
Brushes:three of them, fine for the surfer and lighthouse, medium for the wave and trees, wide for the sky and open water.
Guide:a paper guide with the finished picture and the colour number for each section.
Optional:a wooden frame to assemble, which holds the square canvas flat and ready to hang.

Without frame
The canvas arrives rolled in a tube. You paint it flat and frame it afterwards if you wish.
With frame
Wooden stretcher bars to assemble stretch the canvas. You paint on a taut surface and hang the picture on the wall.
Questions about this design
Which size keeps the surfer and lighthouse sharp?
The 40x40 cm and 50x50 cm sizes give the surfer, the lighthouse and the pines enough room to stay clear. Smaller sizes still work, but the headland gets tighter. The larger sizes leave more space for the spray and the sky gradient.
How do I paint the white spray without it going milky?
Paint it in thin layers over dry purple water and let each coat dry before the next. Two or three light layers keep the crest bright. One thick coat lifts the colour underneath and turns the spray grey.
Does the canvas arrive framed?
The canvas comes rolled and unframed as standard. Add the wooden frame option and you get stretcher bars to assemble yourself, which holds the square canvas flat and ready to hang once the scene is dry.
Who would this kit suit as a gift?
It is rated intermediate, so it suits an adult who has finished a kit or two. The medium detail keeps the surfer and the lighthouse reading clearly, and the flat blocks of sky and water give you room to practise smooth colour transitions.
