Difficulty level : Intermediate
iWhat does this level mean?
- Beginner: one large subject and big areas to paint, little detail. Ideal for a first canvas.
- Intermediate: several elements or colour gradients, with smaller areas. It takes a little more care and a fine brush in places.
- Advanced: a busy scene with many small areas and small faces to paint with a fine brush. For experienced painters, or with patience.
Tip: on a larger canvas the areas are bigger and easier to paint.
SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy paint by numbers kit
SpongeBob in yellow and Patrick in pink stand together on the left, Sandy faces them in her white spacesuit, and the glass dome rises behind the group. A green tree and a wooden bench fill the right side, while the blue seabed carries corals, stylised sea flowers and water bubbles around the figures. Six colours do most of the work (yellow, pink, blue, green, white, brown) and the level of detail is medium: wide areas on the dome and the water, small shapes only in the corals and bubbles. The 24, 36 and 48 colour options change how finely those blues and greens separate. It suits a cartoon fan who has painted before, or an adult and child sharing one canvas. Tips for painting this design
Block in the blue seabed first so the dome and the figures have a fixed edge, then work through the corals and sea flowers, where the fine brush keeps neighbouring shades apart. Leave the dome until that blue is dry, because pale whites show every overlap. SpongeBob's yellow and Patrick's pink go on last in two thin coats to hide brush marks. Save the bubbles for the end and use the tip of the fine brush. On size, 40x40 cm is the smallest we would choose for three characters; 50x50 cm gives the bench and the corals more room.
Sizes, colours and painting time
The design comes in 15x15 to 70x80 cm (12 sizes). You choose a 24, 36 or 48 colour kit, on rolled canvas, with or without a wooden frame to assemble. Allow around 12 to 30 h depending on the size.
What's in the kit
Canvas:The printed linen canvas carries the outlines and numbers for the glass dome, the wooden bench, the corals and the water bubbles.
Paint:The numbered acrylic pots are ready to use and cover the blue of the seabed, SpongeBob's yellow, Patrick's pink and the white of the spacesuit.
Brushes:Three brushes: fine for the bubbles and sea flowers, medium for the characters, wide for the blue background.
Guide:The paper guide lets you check the numbers for the corals, the green tree and the dome before you open a pot.
Optional:The wooden frame to assemble stretches the canvas of the dome and seabed, otherwise it arrives rolled.

Without frame
The canvas arrives rolled in a tube. You paint it flat and frame it afterwards if you wish.
With frame
Wooden stretcher bars to assemble stretch the canvas. You paint on a taut surface and hang the finished picture on the wall.
Questions about this design
Which size should I choose for this square design?
We offer 12 square sizes from 15x15 to 70x80 cm. For three characters plus the dome, 40x40 cm is the smallest we would pick, and 50x50 cm gives the corals and the bench more room.
Do I need 24, 36 or 48 colours for this scene?
More pots separate the blues of the seabed and the greens around the dome. Choose 24 if you want the six main colours kept simple, 36 or 48 if you want the corals and the water to show more variation.
Is this SpongeBob canvas suitable for a child?
The characters are large and easy to follow, but the corals, sea flowers and bubbles need a steady fine brush. We would paint the small shapes yourself and hand the yellow and pink areas to a younger painter.
Where can I hang the finished canvas?
The square format and the yellow and pink against the blue seabed sit well in a child's bedroom or a playroom. Add the wooden frame and the canvas is ready to hang once you have assembled it.
