- Intermediate: several elements or colour gradients, with smaller areas. It takes a little more care and a fine brush in places.

Tip: on a larger canvas the areas are bigger and easier to paint.
A large multicoloured butterfly among wildflowers paint by numbers canvas to fill in yourself
The butterfly holds the centre with its wings open above a pink flower, and small blue and orange butterflies fly around it. Purple and yellow wildflowers fill the lower half over green foliage, set against a pale background that keeps the wings as the first thing the eye finds. Portrait orientation. The broad panels of the wings cover quickly; the veins, the flower heads and the small insects are where the detail sits and where the fine brush earns its place.
Tips for painting this design
This large multicoloured butterfly among wildflowers paint by numbers design is rated advanced, so start with the pale background and the green foliage, the largest areas. Keep the big butterfly for last: the wing veins want the fine brush and a hand that is not rushing. Paint the small blue and orange butterflies once the flowers around them are dry. On a 20x30 or 30x40 cm canvas the flower heads close up, so take 40x50 cm or larger with 36 colours if you want the yellows, purples and pinks to read as separate flowers. Allow around 20 to 40 hours depending on the size. More designs sit in our butterfly paint by numbers collection, and the flower paint by numbers range covers gardens without the insects.
Sizes, colours and painting time
The design comes in 20x30 to 60x80 cm (9 sizes). You choose a kit of 24, 36 or 48 colours, on rolled canvas, with a wooden frame to assemble or with the canvas already mounted on its frame (except in 50x70 and 60x80 cm, delivered rolled). Allow around 20 to 40 h depending on the size.
What the kit contains
Canvas:The printed linen canvas carries the outlines and numbers for the central butterfly, the small blue and orange ones and every flower head.
Paint:Numbered acrylic pots, ready to use, holding the blue, orange, pink, green and yellow of the garden in 24, 36 or 48 colours depending on the option.
Brushes:Three brushes: the fine one for wing veins and small butterflies, the medium for pink petals, the wide one for foliage and background.
Guide:The paper chart lists every number, which helps on the purple and yellow wildflowers and on the soft background.
Optional:The wooden frame comes as bars to assemble; stretched linen stays taut for the fine work. You can also choose it already mounted on its frame, ready to hang.
Without frame
The canvas arrives rolled in a tube. You paint it flat and frame it afterwards if you wish.
With frame
Wooden stretcher bars to assemble stretch the canvas. You paint on a taut surface and hang the finished picture on the wall.
Mounted canvas
The canvas arrives already stretched on its wooden frame. You start painting right away and hang the picture on the wall.
Questions about this design
Which size should I choose for this butterfly painting?
40x50 cm handles the wildflowers and the small blue and orange butterflies without cramping them. Go to 50x70 or 60x80 cm if you want the wing veins comfortable to paint. Below 30x40 cm the flower heads close up and the fine brush has little room.
Is this design difficult to paint?
The garden holds several yellows, purples and pinks that sit close together. 24 colours works on a small canvas where each flower is a few millimetres wide. From 40x50 cm upwards, 36 colours keeps the wildflowers distinct, and 48 gives the pale background more steps between shades.
Who is this paint kit a good gift for?
The large butterfly is straightforward, since its wing panels are broad. The difficulty comes from the wildflowers, the veins and the small blue and orange butterflies, which need the fine brush and patience. Rated advanced, it takes around 20 to 40 hours depending on the size you choose.
Is paint by numbers difficult?
The frame is optional and arrives as bars to assemble. Stretching the linen keeps it taut, which helps on the wing veins and the small butterflies. Without it the canvas comes rolled and lies flat on a table, which suits painting at a desk.
