Capercaillie in a misty forest paint by numbers: a realistic landscape for experienced painters

Tips for painting this design

Start with the dark masses of the conifers in the background, as they give you reference points for the rest of the canvas. Next, paint the grey and midnight blue mist and keep the transitions between areas soft. The plumage takes the most attention. Work the breast feathers one by one, alternating black and brown, and add the orange highlights on the neck last. Expect around 20 to 40 h depending on the size. At 40x50 cm or 50x70 cm the feathers and needles have enough room, while at 20x30 cm the edges of the tail get tight.
