A rooster with red plumage stands over a nest of twigs, with fluffy chicks and decorated Easter eggs around it. The rest of the scene is filled with purple and blue hyacinths, blades of green grass and a few brown eggs on the ground. The background stays light, so the animals come forward and the colour sits in the feathers, flowers and grass: orange, brown, yellow, green and purple across the whole canvas. The square format keeps the group centred. The level is intermediate, with medium areas and some fine details. Tips for painting this design

Start with the hyacinths and the grass. These flat areas fill quickly and give you reference points on the canvas. Leave the rooster for later and work its plumage from light red towards dark orange, because the feather gradients call for the fine and medium brushes. The chicks are yellow and need little touching up. On a 40x40 cm or 40x50 cm size, the decorated eggs and the twigs of the nest stay clear without becoming fiddly. Allow around 12 to 30 hours, depending on the size you choose.
